Macassa Water Treatment Plant

Sedgman was engaged to conduct an initial feasibility study to define the project scope which was followed by detailed engineering for a new water treatment plant for the site water run off replacing the existing facilities. The design and delivery of the project was staged to align with the construction schedule and planned cut over requirements of the old facilities to the new facilities.

Sedgman was engaged to undertake the detailed design of the new water treatment plant facilities at the processing plant that replaced the existing effluent treatment plant (ETP) with capacity of 600 m3/hr. The scope included the re-use of existing equipment that was transferred over to the new facilities during construction. The new plant is located to the southwest of the Macassa Mill and reclaimed water dam and is used designed to treat effluent associated with the existing operations, specifically run-off and snow melt during the warmer months. The new facilities consist of four stirred tanks, with a separate re-agent building structure to administer hydrogen peroxide (H2O2), Milk-of-Lime and Ferric Sulphate (Fe2(SO4)3) to treat both biological compounds and dissolved compounds, such as residual cyanide and metals.
