Sedgman continues to deliver on its diversification strategy, recently winning a $59.8 million EPC contract for the Alcoa Filtration Plant and a $133 million EPC contract at the Groote Eylandt Mining Company (GEMCO) Manganese Mine.
Sedgman will be the Main Integrating Contractor for the Filtration Plant at Alcoa of Australia Limited's Kwinana alumina refinery in Western Australia. When complete the Filtration Plant will produce lower moisture content bauxite residue from the refinery. This will permit ongoing residue storage within the existing storage area, deferring the need to construct new drying areas.
Sedman's scope of work includes design, procurement, delivery, construction, integration and commissioning of the Filtration Plant and the associated process infrastructure.
The GEMCO Manganese Mine is located in the Gulf of Carpenteria in the Northern Territory. The project will increase the facility's capacity by 0.5 Mt/a by re-processing manganese ore stored in tailings stockpile. Sedgman's scope of work comprises the detailed design, supply, fabrication, construction and commissioning of a sands beneficiation plant, port stockpile expansion and associated infrastructure.
Sedgman Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director Peter Watson said these project awards mark a significant milestone in the Company's diversification strategy with over 50% of the current order book in commodities other than their traditional coal market.
"We continue to look for opportunities within the global minerals sector where we can leverage our EPC delivery model and multi commodity minerals processing experience to deliver value for our new and existing clients."
Detailed design has commenced on GEMCO with completion scheduled for March 2016. Detailed design has commenced on Alcoa with completion scheduled for April 2016.
